Aged care – not-for-profit health and community services.

Project Overview

Following an independent asset management maturity assessment in 2023, the organisation engaged Methuen Consulting to turn the findings into a practical improvement program.

The engagement included validating its current asset management capability, defining future requirements and developing a prioritised, multi-year improvement roadmap. The program focused on strengthening the systems, governance and information underpinning management of buildings, clinical environments, infrastructure and equipment, supporting regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, operational resilience and service quality.

The Challenge

Having already invested in understanding its asset management maturity, the organisation needed to turn that understanding into action. Fragmented systems, unclear governance and inconsistent processes across sites had contributed to a largely reactive approach, without a clear pathway connecting identified issues with prioritised, resourced improvement actions. With a growing, ageing and increasingly complex asset portfolio, the organisation needed a practical way to strengthen consistency, accountability and assurance.

Our Role

Methuen Consulting worked with the organisation’s staff and leadership team to validate the maturity assessment findings and translate them into a practical, sequenced improvement program.

We reviewed existing documentation and facilitated workshops to understand current asset management capability, systems, data and pain points. Next, we helped define future-state policy, objectives, governance, responsibilities, performance measures and platform requirements. Finally, a prioritisation workshop brought these elements together into a resourced, multi-year roadmap, supported by a Stage 1 execution plan and mobilisation of priority actions.

Throughout the engagement, Methuen Consulting worked collaboratively with the organisation’s staff and leadership team to build shared understanding and capability, helping embed good asset management practice rather than creating dependence on external expertise.

Outcomes and Impact

The organisation now has a clearer and more structured foundation for managing its assets. Defined policy, objectives, governance, responsibilities and performance measures replaced previously fragmented practices. The prioritised, resourced roadmap gives the Executive and Board visibility over a sequenced, multi-year improvement program, while Stage 1 actions are already underway to address priority issues identified through the discovery process. The program provides a practical pathway to strengthen data integrity, accountability and consistency across sites, while building internal capability to manage assets more strategically and sustainably.
